Stephen Macafee's
Big Trip to New York
Digital camera: Stephen Macafee

A million people trying to cram into Times Square to witness
the 100th Times Square New Year's Eve Big Ball Drop
meant Stephen's camera work was not brilliant.
  But the accompanying sound of
jubilant celebration speaks
volumes for being there
fresh off the plane from
far-away Australia:
.
.
Catching the subway to Times Square and other famous New York locations
has an atmosphere not found elsewhere - such as wandering gospel
minstrels who profer a brown bag for donations
as they stroll from carriage to carriage:
.
.

On New Year's Day, the night before's
rubbish from a million revellers had
vanished
from the vacinity of Times
Square and it
was business as usual
(extracting cash from tourists)
despite the freezing
temperature:
.

.
Times Square abounds in museums
dedicated to the intellectual
pursuits of mature visitors:
.
.
.
Times Square also caters for
the recreational interests of
younger tourists:

The rumour being put about by pinko-scum liberals,

bleeding-heart feminists and trade unionists that
under President Bush, America has become a
police state is totally without foundation:

bleeding-heart feminists and trade unionists that
the Pentagon is finding it hard to attract
recruits willing to die in Iraq is
also without foundation:

The rumour being put about by pinko-scum liberals,
bleeding-heart feminists and trade unionists that
President Bush is not highly regarded
(especially in New York)
is a tissue of lies:

Enough light-hearted political banter!

Away from Times Square, Stephen
was being intoduced to the more
theatrical
aspects of
American culture:
.
.
.
That done, he had a wad of American
dollars (from his father) to spend
on noble and pious pursuits.

Would he be able to befriend US
capitalism during its sub-prime
crisis and induce it to
change course?

It was a tough call, but I am happy to
report Stephen gave it a damn good try:
.

Here is a tour of Stephen's
 economy-enhancing work
in and around New York
but mercifully without
political spin - except
from the locals...

Stephen's wintry week in New York
ended on a very cold but sunny day
with a visit to the world's most
enduring symbol of hope
 held aloft as a beacon
to troubled souls:

Post Script: Stephen did not
forget to buy his mother
a present while on
Liberty Island:
