Official terror creates what it seeks to cure

By Graham Macafee

When Australia's Attorney General, Philip Ruddock, obtained information from terror suspect Jack Thomas via 'extreme rendition' (prolonged isolation, sensory deprivation and torture in a foreign prison) he copied what he seeks to cure (inhumane terror as a weapon of totalitarian rule) and he undermined what he seeks to protect - Australia's hard-won freedom from tyranny.

When Ruddock's torture-obtained case against Jack Thomas was tossed out of court, instead of respecting the decision, with willful and childish insolence Ruddock imposed a ministerial sentence ('control order') that confers validity and respectability on his torture-obtained data.

I don't know about you, but given enough volts I'd confess
to being Osama bin Laden's grandmother
 and so would Philip Ruddock!

As if terrorising adult suspects isn't bad enough, Australia's chief law officer is the architect of Australia's policy of kidnapping and terrorising unwanted 'boat children' in electrified Ruddock cages until their parents crack and agree to be 'voluntarily' drugged, manacled and deported to torture-happy places where fleeing state terror is a capital offence.

Worst of all, his cruel and malicious abuse of state power (to enhance and extend state power) creates an atmosphere in which terrorist propaganda is more likely to find simple-minded recruits willing to make the 'ultimate sacrifice' - fear of which justifies (in Ruddock's twisted mind) even more extreme 'border protection' measures - leading Australia deeper into totalitarian rule slavishly rubber-stamped by terror-spooked politicians and radio shock jocks.

Is there a way out of this nightmare?  Fortunately there is.
