AGM 2000

On the 27th May 2000, the Canberra Morris Men held their 23rd AGM.  The meeting was held at Tony's place and was well attended.  Even the cool climate of the day could not abate the enthusiasm of the proceedings.

Amended Minutes of the AGM 2000 of the Canberra Morris Men

Held 2:00 pm on 27 May 2000 at Tony Jowett’s place, Warramanga.

Present:

Peter, Lindsay, Tony, Ian, Joel, Lee, Bob, Greg, Guiseppe, Ralph

Apologies: Peter Kneeshaw, Doug Rowling, Brian Myers, Tim Beckett, Duncan Grylls, Chris Robinson, Alan Sisley, Nick Sellars and Crit.

Squire’s Report:

• We danced out at a fete
• lost practice venue at Slovenian Club - Marta had left the club - Tony has her phone number
• Marta turned him down
• we danced at the Harcourt at Easter.

There was a short adjournment during proceedings to view the snowstorm.

Bagman’s report: we are over $600 in the black. 

General business: Joel moved that any other business could be included at any time, suggesting suspending orders can be suspended at any time.

Admission of new members:

• Ian Redpath and Nick Sellars were voted in - congratulations Ian and Nick. Ian's admission was contingent on successfully completing the chip mission (ie chips of a suitable quality and temperature). He managed well, despite the driving snowstorm.
  
  

  
  

• A special vote of appreciation was unanimously extended to Crit for her most valued and regular contribution in music. (Joel objected to the word "unanimious" on some principle known only to him). Ralph to convey appreciation to Crit.

Comment/explanation from Joel:
Nothing in the Canberra Morris Men has ever, is ever, or will ever be unanimous.

• Thanks Crit from all of us, hopefully you will continue to assist. Keep that baby listening to morris music!. ……. Ralph

Election of officers: The following were elected:

Foreman:	Bob Collier (proxy whilst Tony is convalescing)
Bagman:	Lee Hopson
E-Squire:	Ralph Murphy (was stated as an "Assistant to Foreman")
Webmaster:	Lindsay Whyte - vote of confidence in a great job he has done.

Comment/explanation  from Joel:
No No, Ralph was e-elected "E-Squire" or is that "Esquire"

General business: -Joel again!-

• Greg to investigate need for an ABN.
• Alan Sisley attempting to organise an outing for the CMM to Orange.  Ralph to coordinate. Reasonable show of hands for attendance.

• Ainslie hotel (Ian)

National Folk Festival 2001: Tony to put in a submission for a glorious panorama of great spectacular rapper sword dances of NE England, Cotswald, mumming play, Cotswold workshop and playing music for Morris. A range of options he called it.

Succession planning: Leroy was blamed. Tony commented that for the last 500 years, Morris skips a generation - more reason to blame Leroy.  We need grandchildren!

25 th Anniversary Ale: Proposed by Guiseppi and agreed unanimously (Joel interjected again). Date 1st May 2002 for anniversary, & around 29th May 2002 (which is a Wednesday) for the ale was suggested. Guiseppi appointed as CAPO (Chief Ale Planning Officer).

Dance traditions to be pursued: The members wanted to do some new interesting things.  Bob Collier will instruct in such things (Sherbourne was one I think).  Ralph proposed we develop new traditional concepts (which some found tautologically amusing).

Meeting ended at 4:03pm with a vote of thanks to Ian for getting the chips.

A set of dances in almost a freezing snowstorm ensued.
