Oz OpinionsWhat Aussies think about life, love and cars, not to mention all the recent global events. Australian's opinions on the big issues differ from issue to issue. Australians as a whole cannot be described as either conservative or radical. Some examples:
ImmigrationThe last federal election saw the Liberal government re - elected again on an anti-illegal-immigration stance, suggesting about 60% support.
EuthenasiaThis has about 75% support in Oz, as it is seen as a right and an end to suffering.
Gun bansThese have about four fifths support. While it is accepted that farmers need guns to aid in the running of their properties and similar cases, guns for things like self defence are generally considered unacceptable.
Drug decriminalisationThis also has around 3/4 support, with drug addiction seen as a medical rather than a criminal problem.
AbortionThis varies widely from state to state, with an overall half and half split. It is legal in several states, so abortions are generally accessable.
TaxThe GST is well and truly in, and it's implementors were re - elected. However, there is still much to be done by way of simplification and such. 50/50.
WarRoughly 2/3 against in general, although there is greater support for "pre-emptive strikes" that are directly in Australia's interests. Related links:
