LIBERTY ARCHIBALD KNOX NECKLACE 1900

liberty mark Rare and exceptionally beautiful Liberty of London Arts and Crafts necklace. Made from Gold ; Turquoise and blister pearls, it was designed by Archibald Knox circa 1905.The Celtic inspired design is a classic from Knox , who championed the use of ancient Celtic motifs in all forms of craft work. This piece is unsigned as is usual as Liberty did not give credit to individual designers, but it comes with its original Liberty case ( Note it is very rare to find one of these pieces with original case).Condition is perfect , thought the case shows signs of age. The necklace was originally purchased by Walter Montague Stopford (b.1874 d.1933) for his future wife Mary Josephine Stopford (nee O'Neil) - married 1919. Walter Montague Stopford's Father - Rev. Frederick Manners Stopford was the 1st born son of Hon. Edward Stopford, who was the 2nd born son of James George Stopford - 3rd Earl of Courtown, Co. Wexford, Ireland. The 1st born son, James Thomas Stopford - Hon. Edward's brother, continued the line of Earl of Courtown. The title of Earl of Courtown was created in the Peerage of Ireland . The Earl bears the subsidiary titles of Viscount Stopford (1762) and Baron Courtown (1758) in the Peerage of Ireland, and before 1999 sat in the House of Lords as Baron Saltersford in the Peerage of Great Britain (1796).The piece has been handed down through the family.
A fabulous piece for the collector or investor and a delight to wear.Note my photography does not do this gorgeous necklace justice.
