RARE EARLY CELLULOID & SILVER JEWELLERY |

This fantastic museum quality set consists of a bracelet and two dress clips / broaches. The celluloid is molded in the form of devil or grotesque faces / masks , reminiscent of medieval gargoyles.The horned head with bulging eyes and protruding tongue is some what sinister though at the same time it is a playful expression. The Celluloid is the yellow colour of aged ivory, and the silver mounts are of 800 fineness and bear the hallmarks for Alexandria between 8th August 1906 & 1st September 1916. Note ,I found these small hallmarks difficult to photograph and my photography does not do this beautiful set justice.
The style of this set is timeless and seems to herald the forthcoming Art Deco and Egyptian Revival styles of a few years latter. Condition is perfect , the silver has it's natural patina I will leave polishing to the discretion of the luck new owner. This set would be a joy to wear and an attractive investment for the future . (especially because it is a dated early example of Celluloid ) It will enhance any Jewelry or plastics collection . |
