TIFFANY FLOWER FORM VASEDURAND VINELAND ? KEW BLAS ? QUEZAL ? |
|
|
Beautiful early 20th Century Favrile glass flower form vase.Featuring a green pulled feather design as well as stunning iridescence with gold; pink purple rainbow highlights to the bowl and green and blue red and purple highlights to the foot. The piece is hand made and shows a degree of spontaneity and life .
The vase is unsigned, but obviously made by Martin Bach and his team either at Tiffany's or Queazel who's earliest, work exact copies of Tiffany were unsigned or at Victor Durand's Vineland Glass Manufacturing Co in Vineland ,New Jersey. where Bach set up Art Glass workshop after leaving Quezal. The early Art Glass produced at Durand was unsigned.Another possibility is that it was made at the Union Glass Co in Somerville ,Massachusetts , whose iridescent glass ware resembles that of Quezal ( and hence Tiffany) , it was called "Kew Blas" and is usually signed, though not always.I feel this is a less likely source as the out put of Kew Blas is more rigid and constrained than this piece , which is so much like original Tiffany in that respect.
If it is indeed made at Tiffany it could be an unsigned piece from the 1938 auction of unsold stock." A quote from the Tiffany entry of "Glass Art Nouveau to Art Deco , By Victor Arwas. P 228.:- " In 1938 much of the remaining stock was put up for Auction, and sold for very little.A sizable proportion of this glass was unsigned and unnumbered as it had not gone out on consignment, though it might have been produced twenty or more years earlier." I have taken many photos and find it difficult to capture the true beauty of this oh so lovely vase, the colour and intensity vary with different backgrounds and light..
A beautiful piece of early 20th century American Art Glass to delight the serious collector and will prove a very wise investment. PS. I have been contacted by "experts " on US Glass since puting this up on my web page who tell me this is definitely genuine Tiffany.Any further feedback is most welcome. |
