I believe this design was inspired by Bilton. "According to author Desmond Eyles, Mr. Bilton was at the factory from 1892 to 1912. He trained at Minton's under the former Sevres artist, William Mussill, a gifted painter of flowers and birds and a keen student of nature. After leaving Stoke, Bilton spent a few years in Australia painting watercolours of Australian flora for a publication know as The Picturesque Atlas. He came to Doulton in 1892, bringing with him a splendid portfolio of Australian flowers-wattle, Waratah, wild fuchsia, desert pea, flannel flower, bottle brush, etc. His painting of some of these on vase and other pots displayed at the 1893 Chicago Exhibition won world-wide acclaim. Examples of his original work are in many private collections and in Australian and New Zealand museums."
